1. Practice Social Distancing; stay 6 feet apart from others
2. Wash your hands often. Proper hand washing is a great way to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus.
Check out https://www.cdc.gov/handwashing/when-how-handwashing.html for proper handwashing techniques.
The problem with frequent hand washing is the severity of dry skin that comes along with it.
We recommend using a quick-absorbing, hydrating hand cream which helps leaves the hands feeling incredibly soft, smooth and more youthful-looking. Featured Article Even though we are going through the Coronavirus we are so lucky to see signs of spring all around us. Days are longer, flowers are blooming, signs of new life are everywhere nature is not blocked by the Coronavirus.
Spring is the time to renew and refresh. As Spring begins, we shed the winter coats both literally and figuratively. We go through a spring shed and our skin starts turning over faster. Due to the Earth’s tilt, the northern hemisphere gets closer to the sun, the days get longer and, as a result, our skin gets exposed to more intense UV rays for longer periods of time.
Its recommended by the AAD to adjust your skincare by season. Springtime is a perfect time to adjust your skincare so that it is supporting your largest organ during this beautiful but stressful season.
Tip #1: Protect your skin. If you slacked with your UV protection during the winter, you can’t slack in the Spring. Always start your day with a physical sun block, ideally with at least 10% zinc oxide. Reapply your sunblock at least twice during the day. Remember sunblock can be a moisturizer, tinted moisturizer, mineral powder or make up items that have physical sun block ingredients.
Tip #2: Switch to a lighter moisturizer. Fact, the winter season dries your skin because we spend more time in heated spaces and lose more water through evaporation. We tend to be less hydrated and our body tends to use fat for storage and protection rather than lubricating our cells. As a result, we recommend heavier moisturizers and creams in the winter.
As temperatures and humidity rise, our oil glands become more active produce more sebum. It is a natural response of the body to better protect our skin and as a result, we recommend you switch to lighter creams and moisturizers but still keep the skin hydrated.
Tip #3: DIY at-home facial. Even though you see your esthetician regularly, it’s necessary to give yourself a mini facial at home. Stay away from harsh ingredients, instead look for a gentle fruit enzyme mask. Apply it after you cleanse your skin in the evening. Leave the mask on for 5-10 minutes, rinse and apply treatment serum that your esthetician recommended for your skin. Finish by applying your moisturizer and night cream.
Tip #4: Don’t forget your lips. After winter, your lips need a little love. Use gentle lip exfoliant and healing lip butter at least once a week. Protect your lips daily! Your lips don’t make their own melanin which your skin uses to protect you from UV rays. The color in the lips instead comes from the blood vessels underneath. Using a lip balm with a good sunscreen is essential to preventing not only sun burns, but also protect from sunspots and skin cancer on the lips.
Tip #5: Give your immune system a boost. The skin is part of the immune system, it is the barrier and first line of defense. When your immune system is thriving, your skin will be glowing. Detox your body, improve your diet, take extra supplements such as Vitamin D, C, E etc. (be sure to check with your medical professional)
In closing, we recommend you implement these tips into your daily habits to help you spring into heathier skin!
